Delights in store for vegetarians and vegans
Vegan Perfection is an online store, importer and supplier providing a wide range veg-friendly products, from cake ingredients to meat alternatives and even books and DVDS. Run by Jeremy Johnson and his partner Rebecca, the store has become a popular retailer for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.
Vegetarian Victoria spoke to Jeremy to learn more about the idea behind Vegan Perfection and what he loves most about a vegan lifestyle.
When did you begin Vegan Perfection? We started setting the business up in October 2005 and started trading in June 2006. This included a major false start where our entire first shipment of goods was destroyed in transit!
What was the idea behind starting Vegan Perfection?I became vegan when I was living in the UK. When Rebecca and I returned to Australia in late 2005 we were disappointed in the range and quality of prodcuts available to vegans in Australia. So we set about rectifying the situation by importing the best vegan products we knew of from all around the world into Australia and distributing them as far and wide as we could. We wanted to make veganism an attractive proposition for people, and still do to this day.
What are some of the most popular items ordered through your store? Our Cheezly range of vegan cheeses without a doubt! They were the most popular items right from the start and still are now. What else? Our Jumbo vegan Hotdogs, Plamil Mayonnaise, Bonvita Ricemilk Chocolate, Soyatoo vegan creams, Condensed Soymilk, Jelly Crystals and Eco Vital confectionary are also very popular. And anything new. We have a big range now, but I still get super excited when we introduce new products! Some would say over excited!
What are your favourite things about being vegan?Absolutely everything. Becoming vegan was the greatest achievement of my life and the best thing I have ever done or ever will do. Despite the fact that I can sometimes get very down when I think about all of the things that happen to animals around the world, I draw immense personal satisfaction knowing that I do not contribute to their pain and exploitation. I cannot imagine myself not being vegan, even when I think about the years before I became enlightened.
What would you say to anyone considering become vegetarian/vegan?Do it! Embrace it! If you focus on all of the positive aspects of vegetarianism or veganism, rather than consider it as a sacrifice, then it will be an unbelievably rewarding lifestyle change. Your body, our planet and countless animals will all benefit and thank you, and the world will be a better place. And get educated. If you know all of the facts, then vegetarianism or veganism is virtually inevitable. I defy anyone to truly know about all that suffering and turn away from it.
